Based on her 2017 documentary Birth of a Family, acclaimed filmmaker Tasha Hubbard brings the story of four siblings, separated as babies during the Sixties Scoop, who are reuniting 50 years later during a week spent in Banff. An emotional journey handled with care, respect, and beauty. This film will sit with you long after the credits roll. The Sixties Scoop is the term given for the then-common practice of removing Indigenous children from their families, often without consent, and placing them with the child welfare system.
Whilst the characteristics of a melodrama rears its ugly head, Meadowlarks is still worth a watch. An important story that deserves to be told to audiences on the big screen, the committed performances show us the trauma these people have endured.. Gavin Spoors – FILMHOUNDS Magazine
The actors do their best to give the one-dimensional dialogue some life, but the entire film fails to get much of this emotion across. ….. Alfred Castaneda – Shade Studios
