Reviews:

Ken Hanke, Mountain Xpress, Eye for Film: "Observed with keen wit and a wicked sense of humor that's never utterly cruel, since it's impossible not to conclude that Frears can't help but like these absurd characters."
Gary Thompson, Philadelphia Daily News: "Tamara Drewe is the quintessential British comedy."
Jim Lane, Sacramento News & Review: "... as invigorating as a year in the airy, earthy English country."

Tamara Drewe

Year: 2010
Country: England
Director: Stephen Frears
Leads: Gemma Arterton, Roger Allam, Bill Camp
Genre: Comedy
Runtime: 111 minutes
Rating: 14 A (language and some sexuality)
Language: English
Directed by Oscar nominated Stephen Frears (The Queen), Tamara Drewe is based on Posy Simmond's graphic novel of the same name (which was itself inspired by Thomas Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd). This witty tale in the present-day English countryside – with pompous writers, rich weekenders from London, bourgeois bohemians, a horny rock star, and a great many Buff Orpington chickens and Belted Galloway cows – is however a much funnier place. Once an ugly duckling, Tamara has transformed into a devastating beauty. As infatuations, jealousies, love affairs and career ambitions collide among the inhabitants of the neighboring farmsteads, Tamara sets a contemporary comedy of manners into play using the oldest magic in the book – sex appeal.
