Genre: Drama
Runtime: 131 minutes
Rating: PG 14 (some violence, profanity, nudity)

Everlasting Moments, is a meticulously told tale of the struggles of Maria Larrson (Maria Heiskanen) based on real events in Sweden in the early 20th century.  Maria benefits from the discovery and use of the newly invented camera which aids in her survival during harsh times. As typical in many Swedish period epics, religion, guilt and family loyalty are major factors influencing the actions of the characters of the story. Director Jan Troell does a magnificent job re-creating the time period, and while many of the film’s images are rather harsh and painful to take in, they are also fascinating and beautiful in their realism. Despite the bleak world in which the characters inhabit, the film is ultimately a moving affirmation of life’s beauty and the strength of the human spirit.

Reviews:

Top critic, Sun Online:
“This film lovingly celebrates the wonders of technology that we now take for granted.”

Keith Cohen, Entertainment Spectrum: “This emotionally tender story of hope leaves an indelible impression. It is not only a biography, but also a loving celluloid tribute to the art of photography.”

Greg Quill, Toronto Star: “Veteran Swedish director Jan Troell loads the chronicle of a poor family in troubled times, 1907 through the late 1920s, with a powerful subtext about class, faith, artistic fulfillment and the mysteries of love."
