Broken Embraces
Sunday, March 21st – Galaxy Cinema    (rescheduled from March 7th)

Reviews:

Duane Dudek, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “A rich, tangled and layered work whose lurid, sensual style--and seething and ebbing score by Alberto Iglesias--is like lava cooling upon the volcano below.”

Keith Cohen
, Entertainment Spectrum: “The unbeatable Oscar-winning combination of legendary Spanish writer/director Pedro Almodóvar and international superstar beauty Penelope Cruz makes this lavishly mounted melodrama a cinematic gem.”

Philip Martin, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette: “Almodóvar dives into this knotty, plotty mess the only way he can--with utter abandon and what might be best described as a kind of artful recklessness.”

Harry Caine (Lluís Homar) is a script-writer who lives in darkness. Fourteen years earlier, before the car accident that took his sight and the love of his life, Lena (Penélope Cruz), Harry used his real name, Mateo Blanco, when he directed films. When Harry’s secretary, Diego (Tamar Novas) is injured, to entertain him during his convalescence, Harry tells Diego the story of Mateo and Lena, a tale dominated by fatality, jealously, the abuse of power, treachery and guilt. This sizzlingly sexy film noir is a love letter to the magical power of movies to mend broken hearts.
